"Here the jazz of bebop’s future mixes with the aura of Igor Stravinsky, Edgar Varese and other figures within 20th-century European art music’s avant garde. This is not a random pairing: Parker had plans to study with Varese, but died before that could happen. His oft-voiced desire to take lessons from the composer caused Sahin to listen to him anew, and he heard a new world of possibility within Bird’s solos when he did. Rather than mimic or reference Bird’s distinctive moves, the musicians here strive to create a musical offering that the man himself would have valued.”
